What to expect from attending a Hosea Horsemanship Clinic; Kevin Hosea helps horse owners understand the behavior, personality, & learning patterns of their horses; to identify basic elements for a well-trained horse; to establish a position of leadership and respect; to use clear, consistent, & effective communication; to understand the importance of groundwork for every horse; to time and use pressure effectively; and to know when better training (not more severe equipment) is the solution.
S. Chandler Of North Carolina Says; ~I purchased a 2 yr old Appaloosa colt in October of 2007. He stayed put at his prior owner until I sent him to *******, who I had heard was a very good trainer, in January 2008 to start him. Two weeks into the training I was told it was not going very well. That he was very unpredictable, he was really broncy,(sp?) that he would run towards you when he got spooked and almost run you over. These were just a few of many other negative things. At the end of the 30 days, I was told by the trainer to look for another horse. The trainer had given up on him. Then a friend of mine told me about Kevin Hosea. Kevin went to pick up my colt, who I later named River, The first of February and brought him to his facility. Kevin's evaluation of him over the following few weeks was that when these issues came up, he wasn't ever taught how to work through and get over them. They didn't address the problems that needed to be fixed. He was a very scared and over reactive horse. He was definitely very bucky. Kevin would't go into just how much the horse would buck. I was shocked at actually how long all the bucking went on. He was a little slow at learning, a little bit different. Kevin was exactly what he needed. He was very, very patient with him. Did I say very, very patient? But he saw something in River and did not want to give up on him. Once he finally broke through, River improved dramatically! Kevin got to the point where he could stand on River's back and snap a whip and River would just stand there unconcerned like a 20 yr old. I was thrilled! Who would have ever thought that this very scared, over reactive, spooky, unpredictable horse would become so calm!!!! Kevin is truly a miricle worker!!!!!!!!!! I will never forget what he has done for my horse River and me!!!!!!!!! I recommend Kevin highly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kevin Hosea has been starting colts and working with problem horses for about 10 years. He spends the majority of each day riding and developing horses at his facility Circle H Farms in Morris Chapel, TN. He has a long history with horses, having had his first experience starting ponies at the age of 8 or 9. He is active in the equine community, is currently president of the Saddle Club of Hardin County, is a member of the United States Team Penning Association (USTPA) and competes in sorting and team penning events in the area.
Kevin Hosea believes each horse he has worked with has had something to teach him over the years. He has studied under master horseman Dennis Reis, earning several of Reis' Certifications.
Kevin Hosea describes his approach as patient and one that emphasizes identifying the horse’s own learning process. He also believes the horse’s first ride is their most important and wants to put in the time to prepare them well for this.
